Vineyard 1x19 Galvanized Steel Strand 3.5-5.0mm 1770 MPa Trellis Tension Wire

Vineyard 1x19 galvanized steel strand, 3.5mm to 5.0mm, high tensile trellis wire that keeps its tension when the rows are carrying a full crop.

A trellis wire has one job and it does it for twenty years: stay tight. The load is modest but constant, and the failure mode that actually annoys growers is creep, where the wire slowly lengthens under sustained load and the fruiting wire sags into the canopy by mid season.

That is why we build this as 1x19 in 1770 megapascal wire rather than the cheaper 1x7 in standard grade. Nineteen wires bed down less under sustained tension and the higher strength wire allows a higher installation tension, so the wire stays where the gripple was set. The coating is smoother than a heavy hot dip, which matters when netting and shoots slide along the wire every season.

• Low creep under constant crop load: Nineteen wire construction with stress relieved high tensile wire resists the slow elongation that makes a trellis sag by midsummer. Rows stay in the wire, not on the ground.
• 1770 MPa for higher installation tension: Higher strength wire can be tensioned harder at installation, which directly reduces the sag a grower sees at full canopy load and gives more headroom for the netting.
• Smooth coating that does not snag netting: Coating mass is controlled to give a smooth, even surface rather than a rough heavy dip. Netting and vine shoots move along the wire without catching, which saves labour and reduces net damage.
• 1x19 holds shape on end posts: The firmer strand wraps an end post anchor without flattening and holds in a wire tensioner or gripple without slipping, which is the most common failure on trellis lines.
• Sized for vine and orchard rows: 3.5mm for catch and netting wires, 4.0mm to 5.0mm for fruiting wires and for windbreak rows. Standard lengths up to 2000m keep mid row joints out of the design.
• Zinc that survives the soil line: Trellis wire is in contact with soil, posts and plant residue. A measured 230 to 270 grams per square metre coating keeps the wire sound at ground level where plain thin coatings fail first.

The main use is vineyard and orchard trellis: fruiting wires, catch wires and netting support on end post systems. It is also used for hop and berry trellis, and for windbreak and shade netting frames on horticultural sites.

Outside horticulture the same strand is used where a small diameter, high tensile wire has to hold a light constant load for years, such as fence strainer wires on stud farms and security mesh tensioning.

Wire strength is tested before stranding and the finished strand is tested for breaking load per lot. Creep testing is run on a sample held at thirty percent of breaking load for a thousand hours, because creep is the property a grower actually experiences, even though no data sheet leads with it.

Coating mass is measured by stripped weight on both ends of each lot, and the strand is inspected for skips at wire crossover. Any reel with a pronounced surface roughness is downgraded, since rough wire damages netting season after season.

Wooden reels or coils of 500m to 2000m, VCI wrapped and strapped, with the reel marked for size, length, strength, coating mass and lot number. Cut lengths for fixed row runs are supplied coiled and served at both ends so there is no waste at the headland.
